Lord shiva vowed to bring Lord Ganesha back to life. He instructed his disciples to search for the head of the first alive creature that they noticed so that they could replace it on Lord Ganesha's body. His devotees came back with the head of an infant elephant, replaced on Ganesha's head, to take him back to life.It is believed that Lord Ganesha returns to Mount Kailash to join his parents Lord shiva and Goddess Parvati on the last day of the festival. Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of the most celebrated festivals of the Hindus that marks the birth of Lord Ganesha.

As Ganesha Chaturthi is to be celebrated on 7th September, the work of making Ganesha idols is going on in salem district.
