Rainy Ganeshotsav Expected as IMD Forecasts Showers Until september 14

This week, as Ganeshotsav celebrations continue, mumbai and its suburbs are anticipated to experience moderate rainfall.

On sunday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for the thane and Palghar districts, but there was no warning for mumbai itself. Last week, the IMD had also issued a 'yellow' alert for mumbai, predicting heavy rain in isolated areas. In the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on sunday, the Santacruz and Colaba observatories recorded 82.6 mm and 46.4 mm of rain, respectively.

Since the start of the monsoon in June, the Santacruz weather station has recorded 2,514 mm of rainfall, which is about nine percent above the seasonal average of 2,318 mm.

As of sunday morning, the total water stock in the city's seven lakes had decreased to 97.75 percent (14.14 lakh million liters). Mumbai’s water supply comes from these lakes—Tulsi, Vihar, Bhatsa, modak Sagar, Tansa, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna—which typically fill up during the four months of monsoon.
