More than 7,500 idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Gauri were immersed in mumbai till tuesday evening. Devotees in the city and the rest of maharashtra bid farewell to their Gajanand deity. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that there was no report of any untoward incident anywhere during the immersion. Among the idols immersed in the sea, lakes and artificial ponds in the city till 6 pm, 7,227 were household Ganapati, 300 of public mandals and about 50 idols of Goddess Gauri. Of these, 2,880 idols were immersed in artificial ponds.
The immersion procession of the famous public Ganesh idol 'Lalbaugcha Raja' of central mumbai reached Chinchpokli at around 6.30 pm while heading towards Girgaon Chowpatty or the beach. bus service BEST has diverted buses on several routes due to the immersion procession.

Officials said that Western Railway and Central Railway will run special trains late at night for the convenience of devotees. Over 24,000 police personnel have been deployed on the roads for security and crowd management. Thousands of domestic and public Ganesh idols will be immersed in 204 artificial ponds across the city as well as 69 natural reservoirs like Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Marve and Aksa beaches.
71 control rooms set up
The BMC said that it has deployed over 12 thousand officers and employees for Shobha yatra management and 71 control rooms have been set up. It has deployed 761 'lifeguards' and 48 'speed boats' on the city's beaches as a safety measure. During this time, citizens have been advised to avoid going into deep sea. The government has also warned citizens about blue button jellyfish and stingrays while immersing idols in the sea.
