Is maha Kumbh 2025 Really Happening After 144 Years?

The maha Kumbh going on in Prayagraj is now moving towards its final phase. This time the devotees coming to maha Kumbh have broken all records. So far 54 crore devotees have taken a dip of faith in Sangam. The amazing coincidence of planets and constellations after 144 years is believed to be a big reason behind this. In such a situation, people rushed towards Prayagraj to earn the merit of maha Kumbh during their lifetime. But, is there really any truth in this? Is it true that such a maha Kumbh is happening after 44 years?

Actually the normal cycle of maha Kumbh is completed in 12 years. Purna Kumbh mela is organized in Prayagraj every 12 years. Similarly, maha Kumbh takes place after 12 Purna Kumbhs. The claim of 144 years being made about maha Kumbh this time is not new. Such claims have been made before this as well. Earlier in 1989, 2001 and 2013, similar claims were made that this is happening once in 144 years.

Is the claim of 144 years of maha Kumbh correct or not?

If so, then why did the yogi government claim this time that this maha Kumbh is happening after 144 years. There is also a political aspect to this. Earlier in 2018, the yogi government changed the name of Ardh Kumbh to Kumbh, so that its importance could be increased further. There is a contradiction about this in government documents as well. In the year 2023, a document of the Uttar Pradesh government and the CAG report said that the Kumbh of 2013 was also going to happen once in 144 years.

If we study this claim at the international level, then in the research done by Harvard university on the Kumbh of 2013, the maha Kumbh of 2001 was said to be happening after 144 years, which is not mentioned in the british records. There is no mention of the gap of 144 years in the allahabad Gazetteer published in 1911, but the Kumbh of 1906 is recorded. There is confusion in the astronomical calculations. The astronomical calculations of every Kumbh are based on the special positions of the sun and Jupiter, but there is no recognition of 144 years.
