MahaShivratri 2025: Four prahars of MahaShivratri!

On Mahashivratri 2025, devotees observe night-long worship divided into four prahars (quarters of the night), each having special significance in offering prayers to Lord Shiva. Each Prahar holds special significance, and devotees perform different Abhisheks using milk, honey, curd, ghee, and sacred offerings. Chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” and staying awake through all four Prahars is believed to bring divine blessings and spiritual upliftment.

Four Prahars of Mahashivratri 2025 (Tentative Timings)

First Prahar (Evening) – 06:22 PM to 09:27 PM

Devotees perform the first abhishek with milk and chant "Om Namah Shivaya."

Worship signifies purification of the body and mind.

Second Prahar (Night) – 09:27 PM to 12:32 AM (Feb 26)

The second abhishek is done using curd to invoke peace and prosperity.

Meditation and chanting continue to enhance spiritual connection.

Third Prahar (Midnight) – 12:32 AM to 03:38 AM

The third abhishek is performed with honey symbolizing sweetness and devotion.

This is considered the most powerful time for deep meditation.

Fourth Prahar (Early Morning) – 03:38 AM to 06:44 AM

The fourth abhishek is with ghee, signifying attainment of divine grace and enlightenment.

Prayers during this time help in overcoming karma and attaining moksha.

Significance of the Prahars

Each prahar represents different aspects of spiritual purification. Observing vigil, chanting mantras, and performing abhishek during these time slots bring immense blessings, fulfillment of wishes, and spiritual elevation.
