Reportedly the sports Ministry had explained Olympic wrestler sakshi Malik and weightlifting world champion Mirabai Chanu that they would not be bestowed with arjuna Award as they have already won India's highest sporting honor, Khel Ratna Award in 2016 and 2018, respectively. But Rio olympics bronze-medalist sakshi Malik has not been able to digest the aforementioned reason and she has written a letter to PM narendra modi and sports minister kiren rijiju, seeking answers to her two questions. The 27-year-old has started the letter saying all the athletes’ dream of winning every possible medals they can lay their hands on.
The rohtak born had further asked PM modi and sports minister Rijiju about the medal she should win for the country to be bestowed with arjuna Award. In her second question, sakshi has also asked if she would ever win the arjuna Award in her wrestling career.
What more medal do I get for the country that I be honored with the arjuna award?
Or in this wrestling life, I would never have the good luck of winning this award?" sakshi, who has also won padma shri, fourth highest civilian award of india, said. sakshi won gold at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in 2017 and a silver at the Asian Wrestling championship in New Delhi. sakshi Malik won a bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in gold Coast.
