South African cricket legend ab de villiers has announced his retirement from the game. The 37-year-old cricketer, who announced a surprise retirement from international cricket earlier this year, is set to retire from various t20 leagues around the world.
"It's been an incredible journey, but I've decided to retire from all cricket," De Villiers wrote in a facebook post today.
The Bangalore team had previously hinted that they would keep the player, who has been in excellent form recently, in the squad ahead of the upcoming mega star auction.
“I had so much fun and excitement playing the game for so long. That flame doesn't burn as brightly as it used to now that I'm 37. That is a fact that must be considered.
That is why I am announcing this today. cricket and its people have been extremely generous to me. The game has provided me with unimaginable experiences and opportunities wherever the Titans and Proteas play, or the Bangalore team, or anywhere in the world, for which I will be eternally grateful.
"I'll be eternally grateful for the overwhelming support I've received wherever I've played in south africa and India," DeVilleurs said tearfully.
