IPL 2022: No opening ceremony...What is the reason???

IPL 2022 is starting on 26 March, for the last 2 seasons, neither the opening ceremony nor the spectators were allowed to come to the stadium in the IPL. This year, spectators who have got both doses of vaccine can watch the match in the stadium but there will be no opening ceremony.

The last opening ceremony was held in 2018

The last opening ceremony in IPL was held in 2018. There was a Pulwama attack in 2019 and the governing body decided to cancel the opening ceremony. It was said in the formal statement that the opening ceremony will not be held to pay tribute to the martyrs and in their honor.

No event held for the last 2 years due to Covid

Due to the Covid epidemic, the opening ceremony is not being organized for the last 2 years. In 2020 and 2021, matches were also held in the stadium without spectators.

Covid restrictions

The IPL governing body has decided that this year also the Opening Ceremony will not be organized. The Covid epidemic seems to be under control at the moment but no event will be organized as a precaution. In view of the Covid restrictions, all the matches are being organized only in Maharashtra.
