India’s campaign at the 2024 paris olympics got underway today with a host of archers in action in the women’s and men’s individual ranking rounds. Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and deepika Kumari have secured 11th, 22nd and 23rd seedings respectively for the individual event while also qualifying for the women’s team quarters.Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Ramesh Jadhav and Dhiraj Bommadevara will be in action later this evening. india have never won an Olympic archery medal.


Purpose Individual Ranking Round

The qualification round decides the seedings for the knockout competition slated to get underway from Sunday. The 128 archers (64 female + 64 male) have to shoot 72 arrows each which determines their rankings for the single-elimination bracket.The top-ranked archer takes on the lowest-ranked archer, the second-ranked against the second-lowest and so on.

As for the team events, the same rankings are used to determine seedings.For men’s/women’s team events, the total of the archer’s scores from is used while for mixed team event, the total of men’s and women’s from each nation is used. The top four seeded teams in the men’s and women’s events are given a direct entry into the quarters while those seeded between 5 and 12 will square off in round of 16 with the winner advancing into the quarters.

In the mixed team event though only the top-16 get an entry.
