R Ashwin Gets Warned By Bowler For Leaving Crease Early During TNPL Match- WATCH

In a twist of irony, Ravichandran Ashwin, who has staunch beliefs regarding running the non-strikers out if they leave crease early, faced a similar fate in a TNPL match on July 28 (Sunday)

Ravichandran Ashwin, known for his adamant views on dismissing non-strikers who leave the crease early, experienced a particularly ironic moment during the ongoing tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024. The incident occurred on July 28 (Sunday) in Dindigul, drawing significant interest from cricket fans and adding a new twist to Ashwin’s illustrious career. The incident occurred during the first innings of the match when left-arm spinner Mohan Prasath delivered the 15th over.

During the 15th over of the first innings, Mohan Prasath stopped his delivery stride when he noticed Ashwin leaving his crease. Ashwin immediately halted his movement upon seeing the bowler stop. Replays showed that Ashwin's bat was just on the crease and he would have been out if the bowler had removed the bails.

Ashwin's Staunch Take On 'Spirit Of The GameSituation

Notably, Ashwin is well-known for his stance on Mankading non-strikers, having famously run out Jos Buttler in this manner during the indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. That dismissal of Buttler ignited many debates around the 'Spirit of the Gamein a cricket match.

The veteran off-spinner has been vocal about the stigma surrounding this dismissal, arguing that only the bowlers are often pressured to uphold the spirit of the game.

In 2022, the Marylebone cricket Club (MCC) addressed the stigma associated with this dismissal by moving it from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Run out). Since then, batters have become more cautious about not leaving the crease early while the bowler is in their delivery stride.
