Paris olympics 2024: Prithiviraj Tondaiman Stands Dead Last at End of Day 1 in Men's Trap

Nowhere near the dream start one would have expected, as 37-year old indian trap shooter prithviraj Tondaiman had a rough outing in his Olympic debut at paris, finishing dead last in Day 1 of the Men’s Trap event on Monday.

At the end of 3 rounds, Tondaiman scored a tied group-low 68, six points lesser than current leader Sweden’s Levin-Andersson.Tondaiman was looked up to as one of India’s top medal prospects at the paris Olympics. The 37-year-old was part of the indian shooting team at the 2022 Asian Games, held in Hangzhou, China. He won a bronze medal at the ISSF world cup in 2023 in trap men. In the very same year, he bagged another bronze in trap men at the ISSF world cup, held in Doha.

But, as of now, the tide is against the Indian. But, not all hope is lost, as there still exists an opportunity for the shooter to redeem himself when the qualification rounds resume tomorrow.Shooters fire at clays thrown in front of them from five different positions. The preliminary round of the men’s and women’s event, the athletes take 25 shots each in five rounds over three days and the six best shooters move on to the medal round.

So, there still exists a window of opportunity for the indian to find his rhythm and confidence and push for qualification into the final, that is slated to take place on the evening of July 30.
