IOA raises questions about CAS's decision on Vinesh's medal case...

The entire country of India, not just Vinesh Phogat, was waiting for the court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ad hoc division's decision on saturday over the request for a shared silver medal. The announcement was postponed, though, as the commission said more time was needed to consider the indian wrestler's appeal against her disqualification from the women's 50kg freestyle final at the 2024 Summer olympics in Paris. However, the indian Olympic Association (IOA) caused confusion after the revelation about the announcement date.

Vinesh was essentially present at the friday hearing, where United World Wrestling, the second party in this matter, had representatives present and prominent counsels Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania presented their case. After the hearing, it was first said that the interim order would be released on Friday. However, no formal word was received until early on saturday morning, when a press release stated that the announcement was anticipated to be made by 9:30 pm IST.

The verdict will be revealed on Sunday, august 11, according to an IOA statement that was made later on saturday night, well after the previously announced deadline. However, the statement was subsequently clarified to reflect that the outcome will not be known until august 13.

"The CAS Special Division has notified the sole arbitrator, Dr john Johnson, in the case of  Annabelle Bennett vs. Vinesh Phogat," that the request of 11 August  in my earlier conversations was time given to all parties to submit further documents to the sole arbitrator. The panel apologised for "the confusion and inconvenience caused."
