Torn hamstring rules ben stokes out of sri lanka series

England's Test team will be without their captain, ben stokes, for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury. The england and wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that stokes sustained a torn hamstring while batting for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday. Consequently, he will not be available to lead the team in the forthcoming three-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

In Stokes' absence, vice-captain Ollie Pope will assume the role of Test captain for the series. The first Test against sri lanka is set to commence on august 21 at Old Trafford, as announced by the ECB.

The absence of stokes is a major setback for the england team, given his crucial role and leadership.

"England Men's Test Captain ben stokes has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after tearing his left hamstring while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday," the ECB stated, as quoted by AFP.

"Following scans conducted in Leeds on Tuesday, stokes will miss England's three-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The all-rounder is aiming to return for England's winter Test tour of Pakistan, which is scheduled to start in early october and includes matches in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi."
