IPL 2025 Auction: ms dhoni Likely To Become 'UncappedPlayer

The Board of Control for cricket in india (BCCI) is considering reinstating an old policy, which could potentially allow MS dhoni to play at least one more season with CSK.

In a major boost for chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, there is speculation that ms dhoni could play at least one more season. The development comes as bcci is considering reinstating an old policy that could extend Dhoni’s tenure with the team.

When the IPL began in 2008, there was a policy that classified players who had been retired from international cricket for five years as 'uncappedplayers. This rule was removed in 2021.

However, due to feedback from franchise owners, bcci is now considering reinstating this policy, which could potentially allow MS dhoni to play at least one more season with CSK.

"There is a bright possibility of the rule coming back. It was discussed at length during the meeting last month and could well be brought back when the player regulations are announced,a source told News18.

If bcci reinstates the old policy, ms dhoni could be considered an 'uncappedplayer for the IPL 2025 auction. This would allow CSK to retain him for up to INR 4 crore, saving INR 8 crore compared to his previous retention amount of INR 12 crore.

This change could be a game-changer for CSK's budget and team strategy.

At a recent event in Hyderabad, ms dhoni revealed that his decision to continue playing for chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 will largely depend on the retention rules in place.

"There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalized, I will take a call, but it needs to be in the best interest of the team.said dhoni at a promotional event in Hyderabad.
