Pakistan's WTC campaign receives another blow after the embarrassing defeat in the PAK vs BAN test as they have been handed a penalty by the ICC.

As if things were not already going south for pakistan, they have received another blow after the embarrassing 10-wicket defeat against bangladesh in the Rawalpindi test. The Shan Masood-led side has been docked six ICC World Test championship (WTC) points and 30 percent of their match fee due to maintaining slow over rates. bangladesh also met a similar fate as they were docked three WTC points and 15 percent of their match fee after the PAK vs BAN test

Pakistan was found to be six overs behind the required rate, while bangladesh fell three overs short. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, each over is valued at five percent of the match fee. Hence, this results in a 30% match fee fine for pakistan and a 15% fine for Bangladesh.

“Hosts pakistan were found to be six overs short during the Test and lost six World Test championship points, while visitors bangladesh were docked three points after being found three overs short of the acceptable rate,” ICC said in an official statement/

“Pakistan was fined 30% of their match fee while bangladesh was penalized 15%. Captains Shan Masood and Najmul Hossain Shanto pleaded guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions, so there was no need for formal hearings,” the ICC statement added further.

The WTC conditions impose point deductions for being behind the required over rate and thus pakistan faces six points docking in their WTC points. The six-point penalty from this match further jeopardizes their chances of reaching the final, especially with a challenging series against england and south africa ahead.

Currently languishing at number eight on the ICC WTC points table, only above West Indies who are last, pakistan has eight more test matches left in the current WTC cycle.
