Shaheen Shah Afridi Out! pakistan Announces 12-Man Squad for 2nd Test Against Bangladesh

Following a surprising 10-wicket defeat to bangladesh in the first Test at Rawalpindi cricket Stadium, pakistan is gearing up for the second and final Test of the series at the same venue, starting on august 30. On the eve of the match, pakistan revealed a 12-man squad for the Test, notably excluding shaheen Shah Afridi.

Afridi, who recently became a father, was a key part of Pakistan’s pace attack in the series opener, taking two wickets. However, he has been left out of the squad for the second Test. In his place, pacer Mir Hamza and spinner Abrar ahmed have been included.

It remains unclear whether Afridi’s omission is due to a drop in form or simply rest. The left-arm pacer, Pakistan's leading wicket-taker in World Test championship history, had also missed Pakistan’s third Test against australia in Sydney earlier this year.

Pakistan's strategy of playing four seamers in the first Test against bangladesh did not yield the desired results, which may have influenced the decision to include Abrar ahmed in the squad. It remains to be seen whether Khurram Shehzad and Mohammad ali will retain their spots, or if one will be replaced by Hamza.

Naseem Shah is expected to feature in the playing XI and spearhead the attack under the leadership of Shan Masood.

After the historic loss in the first Test, pakistan is aiming to bounce back and avoid the embarrassment of a series defeat against Bangladesh. Star batter Babar Azam and captain Masood, who struggled in the first Test, will need to step up in this crucial match.

Pakistan’s 12-man squad for the 2nd Test:

Shan Masood (C)
Saud Shakeel (VC)
Mohammad Rizwan (WK)
Abdullah Shafique
Saim Ayub
Babar Azam
Agha Salman
Naseem Shah
Khurram Shahzad
Mohammad Ali
Abrar Ahmed
Mir Hamza
