Nita Ambani Extends Congratulations to indian Para Athletes in Paris

The indian contingent at the paris Paralympics has achieved unprecedented success, capturing a record-breaking eight medals on the fifth day of the 2024 Games. Among the standout performances were Kumar Nitesh and sumit Antil, who secured gold medals, putting india on track to potentially surpass the 19 medals won in Tokyo.

Nita Ambani, renowned for her support of sports through the reliance Foundation, expressed her admiration and congratulations. “Indian athletes continue to make the nation proud at the paris Paralympic Games! Congratulations to Nithya Sivan, sumit Antil, sheetal Devi, Rakesh Kumar, suhas Yathiraj, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manisha Ramadass, Nitesh Kumar, yogesh Kathuniya, Nishad Kumar, Preethi Pal, and Rubina Francis for your outstanding medal wins!” Ambani said.

She added, “Your remarkable journeys and triumphs are a shining example of the resilience of the human spirit. Nitesh Kumar, a 29-year-old engineering graduate from IIT-Mandi who lost his left leg in a 2009 train accident, began the medal rush by winning gold in the men’s singles SL3 category. He triumphed over Britain’s Daniel Bethell, the tokyo silver medalist, with a hard-fought score of 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 in a final lasting over an hour.

Later, sumit Antil, who hails from Sonipat in Haryana, further highlighted India's success by becoming the first indian man to defend his Paralympic title. He won the javelin throw F64 final with a Games record throw of 70.59m, surpassing his previous Paralympic best of 68.55m from Tokyo. Antil’s current world record stands at 73.29m. He joins shooter Avani Lekhara as one of only two indians to defend a Paralympic title.

In addition to these gold medals, india also secured silver medals from discus thrower yogesh Kathuniya (F56), and para-shuttlers Thulasimathi Murugesan (SU5) and suhas Yathiraj (SL4), the latter also a silver medalist from Tokyo. Manisha Ramadass (SU5) and Nithya Sre (SH6) won bronze medals, and the archery team of sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar made a notable comeback to earn a bronze medal as well.
