Ignored For Duleep Trophy, Star indian Spinner Takes Five-Wicket Haul

In a notable County championship Division Two match, Yuzvendra Chahal, a prominent indian spinner, demonstrated his prowess by taking a five-wicket haul for Northamptonshire against Derbyshire on september 10, 2024. Chahal's performance, with figures of 5 for 45, played a crucial role in dismissing Derbyshire for 165 runs, giving Northamptonshire a 54-run lead at the end of the first innings. This achievement highlights Chahal's skill and form, despite his absence from the Duleep Trophy 2024 squads.

Chahal, a key player in India's t20 World Cup-winning team, has yet to make his debut in red-ball cricket for India. His last white-ball appearance was in august 2023 against the West Indies. Despite his success in t20 cricket, including being India’s top wicket-taker in the format, he has not featured in any t20 world cup matches. He was named in the squads for the 2022 and 2024 t20 World Cups but did not play.

In contrast, prithvi Shaw, also representing Northamptonshire, struggled with the bat. Shaw, who scored a century on his Test debut in 2018, managed only four runs in the first innings and two runs in the second innings. Like Chahal, Shaw was overlooked by the bcci selectors for the Duleep Trophy 2024, which will see its second-round matches begin in Anantapur on september 12, 2024. Shaw has not played a red-ball match for india since december 2020.
