Rohit Sharma and virat kohli Face Criticism Over Special Treatment

Rohit Sharma and virat kohli, two pillars of indian cricket, have come under scrutiny following their underwhelming performances in the recent Test match against bangladesh in Chennai. In a match where india triumphed by 280 runs, Rohit scored just 11 runs while kohli fared slightly better with 23. Their lack of preparation has raised eyebrows, particularly since they opted out of the Duleep Trophy—a vital red-ball tournament that could have helped them regain form.

Many younger players, including KL Rahul, rishabh pant, yashasvi jaiswal, and Shubman Gill, participated in the Duleep Trophy to gain crucial game time ahead of an important Test season. The decision of Rohit, kohli, and other senior players like Ravichandran Ashwin and jasprit bumrah to skip the tournament has led to allegations of preferential treatment.

Former india cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his concerns, suggesting that this special treatment could be detrimental in the long run. "I’m not worried, but it's clear that having not played red-ball cricket recently, they could have benefitted from the Duleep Trophy," Manjrekar noted on ESPNCricinfo. He emphasized that both players have the quality and experience to bounce back but highlighted the importance of equitable treatment in the team selection process.

With india set to host new zealand for three Tests before traveling to australia for five crucial matches, the performances of these senior players will be under close scrutiny. Manjrekar pointed out that while Rohit and kohli can still excel, the long-standing issue of preferential treatment in indian cricket needs to be addressed to ensure the best outcomes for the team and the players.
