Jay Shah will now be called the former bcci secretary because from yesterday i.e. 1 December, he is going to take over as the new ICC chairman. Shah was unanimously elected as the new chairman in august this year and is now officially going to take over as the Chief of the international cricket Council. Before taking charge, Jay Shah issued a statement saying that topics like successful organization of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles olympics and promoting women's cricket are among his priorities.
Jay Shah expressed happiness and said, "I am proud to take over the post of chairman, I thank all the directors and board members of the ICC for their support. We are moving towards the 2028 Los Angeles olympics and this journey is going to be very memorable. We will try to make the game of cricket more enjoyable for the fans at the global level. There are many formats in cricket and we have to take women's cricket along as well." Let us tell you that Jay Shah is now going to replace Greg Barclay as chairman, who was the chief of ICC since november 2020. Shah appreciated Barclay's contribution and also praised him fiercely.
It took 15 years to become ICC chairman
Jay Shah stepped into cricket management and administration in the year 2009, when he was just 21 years old. He used to be a board member in gujarat cricket Association and after gaining 4 years of experience, he got the opportunity to become the joint secretary of GCA in the year 2013. In 2015, he entered bcci as a member of the Finance and Marketing Committee. He resigned from the post of joint secretary of GCA in 2019 as he became the secretary of bcci this year and remained in this position till november 2024. Apart from being the chairman of ICC, he is also the president of Asian cricket Council.
