National Games: Four national records broken in weightlifting, Punjab's Mehak Sharma made three new records


While challenging in the women's over 87 kg category, Mehak lifted 106 kg in snatch and surpassed her previous national record of 105 kg.


Punjab's weightlifter Mehak Sharma performed brilliantly in the 38th National Games and improved her three national records while winning the gold medal, while a total of four national records were broken in this sport. 29-year-old Mehak performed brilliantly on the last day of the weightlifting competition.


While challenging in the women's over 87 kg category, Mehak lifted 106 kg in snatch and surpassed her previous national record of 105 kg. After this, she also improved her national record of 140 kg with 141 kg in her last clean-and-jerk attempt.

Mehak lifted a total of 247 kg, which is three kg more than her previous national record of 244 kg. She won the gold medal defeating her rivals by a big margin. purnima Pandey of Uttar Pradesh won the silver medal by lifting a total of 216 kg while satya Jyothi of karnataka (total 201 kg) bagged the bronze medal.


After winning the gold medal, Mehak said, "I was confident because I had practiced hard but I never thought that I would break all three records. Now that I have done it, I am satisfied. I am very happy. I thank my coach and my family members for this achievement. Nothing can be achieved in this sport without the help of the coach."


Mehak had set her last three national records less than four months ago during the National Championships in himachal pradesh in October. Medals at the National Games are awarded only on the basis of the total weight lifted by the participants.


In the men's over 109 kg category, tamil Nadu's S Rudramayan broke another national record. He lifted 175 kg in snatch which was better than Railways' Gurdeep Singh's national record of 172 kg. However, Rudramayan could only lift 180 kg in clean and jerk. He lifted a total of 355 kg, which earned him a silver medal.


Army's Lovepreet Singh won the gold medal. He lifted a total of 367 kg by lifting 165 kg in snatch and 202 kg in clean and jerk. vivek Pandey of uttarakhand won the bronze medal by lifting a total of 280 kg.
