Marvel Studios recruited Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop for Hawkeye after only one meeting. The show would introduced Kate Bishop to the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the point Marvel revealed in 2019 that Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton would get his own Disney+ series. Since her debut in 2005 as member of the Young Avengers, she's been a fan favourite in the comics, putting some emphasis on Marvel Studios to find the right actress to play the archer. More information about Kate's recruitment can now be found in Assembled: The Development of Hawkeye.

Following Hawkeye's announcement, one of the most pressing questions surrounding the series was who will play Kate Bishop. In late 2021, Hailee Steinfeld secured the coveted role of Kate in Hawkeye, making her MCU debut. She rapidly gained a following in the MCU, much as she had in the comics. As audiences saw Kate Bishop's path to become the universe's next Hawkeye, Steinfeld helped ensure she was one of the greatest new MCU characters presented in 2021. Marvel Studios has once again nailed a casting selection, and it appears that they recognised it straight away.

"I believe Kevin imagined Hailee as Kate in the back of his mind. 'Let's meet Hailee, let's just have a discussion with her and see how that goes,' we said. And I recall Kevin offering her the part right there and then after the conversation. So it was fairly surprising that we left that conference shaking her hand and said, 'All right, you're in.' 'You're going to play Kate Bishop,' says the character."
