Stranger Things season 4 premiered on Netflix three years ago, but was it worth the wait? Stranger Things was only supposed to be a one-season show, according to the Duffer brothers. "Maybe I shouldn't say this because I like to think that everything was planned out," Ross Duffer acknowledged to CinemaBlend in 2017, "but Eleven was going to sacrifice herself and rescue the world, and then that was going to be it, because there was a time when limited series were a huge deal."
Netflix, on the other hand, had other plans and approached the Duffer brothers for season 2 ideas. The rest, as they say, is history, with Netflix's popular sci-fi/horror series eventually getting its fourth season in May 2022. Stranger Things has been confirmed to conclude with season 5, though there will reportedly be spinoffs.
Despite these promises to keep Stranger Things alive indefinitely, the period between seasons is growing longer; season 1 and 2 were only one year apart, but season 3 didn't premiere until 2019. This is also due to the Duffer brothers' rising ambition, which is to make each season more spectacular than the last. Because of the unavoidable disturbance, the gap between seasons 3 and 4 has widened.
