The creators of the critically acclaimed German science fiction series Dark have unveiled a new video for Netflix's upcoming epic mystery series 1899. The novel is set in 1899 and follows the voyage of a ship named Kerberos, which transports european immigrants from london to New York City to start their new lives. However, their journey takes an unexpectedly grim turn when they come across another migrant boat floating on the open sea that has been lost for months.

Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for 1899, which showcases the breathtakingly magnificent scenery of the next multilingual historical series. The trailer opens with the character Maura Franklin, played by british actress Emily Beecham, questioning the motives and reasoning behind the passengers' presence aboard the ship. The teaser also features some mind-bending symbolic imagery and a bleak tone, both of which were present in Dark.

Following the success and immense worldwide popularity of Dark, German directors Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese will attempt to take the globe by storm with 1899. Because they didn't want to replicate the concept, the duo recently confirmed that time travel would not be a component of 1899's storyline. While that may be the case, they did promise that viewers will be able to uncover various riddles involving each of the characters, as is hinted at in the video above. Although a release date for 1899 has yet to be announced by Netflix, fans can anticipate to solve the Dark showrunners' latest riddle later this year.
