Govt to make 6-airbag safety norm mandatory!!!
Union minister for Road Transport and Highways nitin gadkari on thursday announced that the implementation of the mandatory six airbags rule in passenger cars has been postponed by a year. The implementation of 6 airbags has been postponed due to constraints in the global supply chain. The road ministry had earlier announced to make six airbags mandatory from october 1, 2022.

Gadkari wrote on Twitter, 'The safety of all passengers traveling in motor vehicles is their top priority, irrespective of their price and variant.' He further wrote that the auto industry is currently facing global supply chain constraints. Also keeping in view its impact on the macroeconomic scenario, it has been decided to implement the proposal to introduce minimum 6 airbags in passenger cars (M-1 category) with effect from 01 october 2023.
Draft notification came in january regarding airbags
Earlier, the deadline for implementing the six airbag rule was october 1 this year. In january this year, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had proposed a draft notification that the passenger vehicle or category M1 vehicles manufactured after october 1, 2022, shall be 'fitted with two side/side torso airbags, each One row outboard seating position facing the person, and two side curtain/tube air bags, one each for persons in outboard seating position, adding up to a total of six airbags per car. The airbag is a passenger-restriction system that acts as a barrier between the driver and the vehicle's dashboard during a collision and, in turn, helps prevent serious injuries.
Car safety and airbag priority
The issue of car safety and importance of airbags has always been high on the Centre's checklist, gaining more prominence recently after the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry in a road accident on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway. According to the police, Mistry and former KPMG director Jehangir Pandole were sitting in the back seat. While the driver and other passengers in the front seat survived.
