Payments Launch On Elon Musk’s X Platform

Elon Musk has repeatedly talked about making X an everything platform and part of that plan includes offering payment through the app. And now, once again, there have been strong hints that the feature launch could be imminent.

One of the app researchers quoted in this TechCrunch report has spotted the word payment in the navigation bar of X. He also found terms like balance, transfer and transactions mentioned next to the feature which more or less confirms the development is in its last leg. Payments is going to be an interesting addition to the so-called social media platform, which already lets you make video and audio calls with all users.

The teaser for payments on X was shared by Linda Yaccarino, CEO, of X through a video called Global Town Square which not only shows us a glimpse into the upcoming features on X but also hints at the changing dynamic of a platform which is not just about putting out posts any more and will cater to a lot more.Musk has talked about bringing a paywall structure for all the X  users. What this basically means is that X could become a paid platform for anyone who wants to use it.Musk’s reasons for bringing this drastic change are linked to the massive bot influx on X, which he believes when people are asked to pay for the service will reduce the influence of bots on the platform. He did mention that, unlike the X Premium subscription, the platform will have a lower tier pricing for all the users.

The Musk-owned app has also announced that all X Premium+ users will not see ads anymore, which sounds rather bizarre on its own. We are hoping that X doesn’t paywall most of the upcoming features as that will limit its growth and reach with other alternatives available for making payment in the world.
