Indian Railways Implements Helmet Cameras in North bengal to Enhance Safety

Indian Railways has introduced a cutting-edge live monitoring system in North bengal aimed at preventing train accidents. This new technology will help identify mechanical faults in both passenger and freight trains while they are in motion. The system allows railway personnel to quickly halt a train and address any detected issues, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.

The innovation includes the use of helmet cameras for monitoring critical train components. These cameras, worn by railway workers, will provide real-time video feeds of the train's moving parts, such as wheels and bearings, and record the data for future review. The helmet camera system is initially being deployed for testing trains in the Maldah section of Eastern Railway.

This advanced monitoring system is designed to offer immediate feedback on any faults detected in train parts as the train moves. During slower speeds, particularly when trains pass through stations, these helmet cameras will ensure thorough examination of the train’s components.

According to Maldah Division DRM manish Kumar Gupta, the helmet cameras are intended for under-gear testing and will enhance the oversight of train parts. Currently, eight helmet cameras have been distributed at Maldah and Jamalpur stations, with plans to expand this technology to other locations such as bhagalpur and Sahibganj.

Previously, indian Railways also announced plans to equip 44,038 coaches with CCTV cameras across various regions. These cameras will be installed at entry and exit points and will feature facial recognition technology to aid in tracking criminal suspects and missing persons. Each coach will be outfitted with 4 to 8 cameras, enhancing security and monitoring capabilities.
