In what can only be described as the most generous act of corporate altruism in recent history, OpenAI’s CEO, sam Altman, has revealed that the company is heroically losing money on its oh-so-reasonably priced ChatGPT Pro plan. Yes, folks, for the bargain price of $20 per month, users get access to GPT-4. And apparently, this is just too much generosity to sustain.

It’s truly heartbreaking to imagine a multibillion-dollar AI enterprise suffering as it tries to give the masses a taste of cutting-edge technology. Forget that OpenAI raised $10 billion from microsoft or that its valuation is hovering somewhere in the stratosphere—none of that matters when you're "struggling" to break even on what amounts to pocket change for many subscribers.

The noble sacrifice
Altman’s lament is nothing short of poetic. "We're losing money on this thing," he says, presumably while counting venture capital dollars in his sleep. Clearly, the fact that Pro users get a sliver of OpenAI’s computational resources must be driving the company into financial ruin. Who knew that offering an AI chatbot 24/7 would be the financial equivalent of handing out free Teslas at a car show?

An ungrateful public
Despite their valiant efforts, OpenAI’s plight doesn’t seem to move the masses. Instead of gratitude, they get questions like, "Why are there limits on GPT-4 usage?" and "When will Pro actually mean priority access during peak times?" Ungrateful, right? How dare people expect premium service for a premium fee?

The solution: Probably more expensive plans
Rest assured, OpenAI won’t let this financial bleeding continue indefinitely. If history has taught us anything, it’s that price hikes and new premium tiers are the perfect salve for monetary woes. So, expect “Pro Max” or “Enterprise Ultra” plans soon, complete with sky-high prices and buzzwords like "AI democratization" sprinkled in for good measure.

The real victims
Let’s take a moment to acknowledge the real victims here: the investors. After all, they’re only in it for the greater good (and maybe a modest return on investment). While Altman and his team valiantly hold the line, these brave souls watch their billions teeter on the edge of profitability.

So, as we bask in the glow of OpenAI’s benevolence, let us not forget the sacrifices they’re making for humanity’s AI-fueled future. Truly, they’re the mother teresa of tech—if mother teresa charged you $20 a month for her services.
