Meta and other companies are after YouTube, reason will surprise!

Other companies including Meta and Snap are after YouTube. These companies have demanded the Australian government to ban YouTube as well. Actually, the Australian government took a big step and banned children under the age of 16 from using social media, but YouTube was excluded from it. Now other companies say that YouTube should also be banned for children under the age of 16.

Why do other companies want to ban YouTube?

Meta and Snap, the parent company of TikTok, facebook and Instagram, say that children face the same dangers due to YouTube as they did from other social media platforms. YouTube also gives children access to algorithmic content recommendations, social interaction features and dangerous content. Meta says that children are exposed to harmful content due to YouTube. Similarly, TikTok says that keeping YouTube out of this rule has made this law inconsistent. Snap has also agreed with this and said that the law should be fair and should be followed without any discrimination.

Why was YouTube not banned?

Australia passed a new law in november last year. Under this, children under the age of 16 cannot access social media platforms. If any platform allows them to log in, then there is a provision to impose a heavy fine on it. However, this law does not apply to YouTube. It has been kept out of the ban due to its educational content and family account with parental supervision. Responding to the statements of other companies, YouTube said that it is strengthening its content moderation policy and identifying harmful content through automated tools.
