Will the jobs of software engineers be blown away of AI?
OpenAI CEO sam Altman has made a big claim about AI. According to sam Altman, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is constantly evolving, which may lead to a decline in the demand for software engineers in the coming times. In an interview, he told that AI-based automation is already bringing a big change in the coding process and in some companies more than 50% of the code is now being written by AI.
sam Altman made a big claim
sam Altman said, "I believe that at the moment all software engineers can do a lot of work. But there may come a time when we will need fewer engineers." He also told that right now the number of engineers has increased but in the long run companies may need fewer developers. The main reason for this can be 'agentic coding' which is a technique in which AI will be able to complete difficult coding tasks on its own.
However, Altman clarified that this technology is not fully developed yet. He said, "AI coding has already crossed the 50% mark in many companies, but the real change will come when agentic coding is fully developed."
OpenAI's focus on AI-based automation
Apart from software development, Altman also discussed OpenAI's business strategy. He clarified that the company is focusing on earning from AI automation instead of ad-based model. According to him, "I am more interested in charging users a good price for services like a great automated software engineer, rather than earning a little from ads."
