With just a few days until doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reaches theatres, excitement is at an all-time high, with Marvel releasing a slew of teasers that give fans a sneak peek at what's in store. Captain Carter, a character who was first featured in Disney+'s animated series What if...? as a version of Peggy Carter who accepted the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, was revealed in the film's most recent teaser, shocking many fans. Captain Carter isn't the first What If...? character to appear in promotional footage for doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness; Sinister Strange and Zombie Strange have both appeared, with the former having a prominent role in his own What If...? episode.
Cumberbatch has since stated that this Sinister Strange variation is not the same as the one revealed in What if...? Cumberbatch said in a recent interview with Total Film journal (via GamesRadar) that this version of Sinister Strange is unlike anything else spectators have seen before. The actor praised What if...? for its examination of the multiverse's infinite possibilities, calling it "a lovely riff of potential," but stressing that this Sinister Strange is "different."
