Darkseid might make a comeback as the franchise's archenemy if Dwayne Johnson's plan for Black Adam to be a significant DCU figure comes to fruition. Black Adam's world-building prepared the ground for multiple DC Universe films and sparked Johnson's imagined confrontation between the title character and Superman. Though Johnson had long promised that Black Adam's strength and outlook on heroism would change the franchise's power structure, the character's big-screen debut also hinted that Darkseid will soon return as the DC Universe's most dreaded villain.

Darkseid was entirely eliminated in the Justice League movie's theatrical edit, among other changes. He was reinstated in Zack Snyder's Justice League as the king of Apokolips on a mission to eradicate free will from all sentient life and govern the multiverse. Since the Snyder Cut, Darkseid has not made any public appearances in the DC Universe. Although Black Adam doesn't specifically mention him either—it focuses more on introducing the Justice Society of America and establishing the atmosphere for Superman's fight with Black Adam—it nevertheless sets up a series of factors that practically guarantee Darkseid will return to the franchise.
