The salt Lake City police Department has verified that detectives apprehended a 65-year-old man accused of robbing a bank in the US city, who reportedly demanded $1 from employees earlier this week "in an attempt to be sent to a prison". The man, named as Donald Santacroce, entered a bank on monday around 300 South Main Street in salt Lake City, the state capital and largest city of the western US state of Utah, according to the salt Lake City police Department and Xinhua news agency.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the bank and harassed employees for cash. According to a news statement from the department, he was arrested for robbery and lodged in the salt Lake County Metro Prison on one count. In the news release, officials didn't specify how much Santacroce had asked bank tellers for. Santacroce delivered a note to a teller that read, "Please excuse me, but I must report a robbery. Give me $1, please. Many thanks ", according to a police booking affidavit cited by a local news station, KSL-TV.

Santacroce was given a $1 by the teller, who then requested him to go. The report also stated that Santacroce instructed the teller to contact the police. "Donald claimed that he committed this act in order to be apprehended and sent to a federal jail. In an effort to achieve his goal of being sent to federal prison, Donald said that if he is released from prison, he will rob another bank and demand more money the next time "The report states that the arrest was made. In the news release, the salt Lake City police Department made no mention of the suspect's potential motivations.
