According to reports, a woman in chhattisgarh allegedly leapt into the Chitrakote Waterfalls from a height of 90 feet after receiving a reprimand from her parents for using a smartphone. On social media, a video that allegedly shows the occurrence in real-time is gaining a lot of attention. On tuesday night, the event took place in the Chitrakoot Chowki neighbourhood of Bastar. Saraswati Maurya, the woman who survived the fall, surfaced a short distance away. She was allegedly afterwards saved by a sailor.
The woman can be seen in the video standing on the edge of the waterfall just before she jumps. Onlookers warned her not to leap, but the woman disregarded their warnings.
It is situated on the river Indravati in Bastar, 38 kilometres from Jagdalpur, and is also known as "mini Niagara." As there are no suitable safety precautions established, there have been numerous accidents at the location in the past. During the rain, the waterfall is 300 metres wide. After performing an inquiry, the police gave the woman, who lives nearby, to her family.
