Outrage in china as women Lock Crying Toddler in Airplane Restroom

In a recent incident that has sparked outrage in china, two women are facing accusations of child abuse after they confined a crying 3-year-old girl in an airplane restroom as a form of discipline. The event occurred on august 24 during a Juneyao airlines flight from Guiyang to Shanghai, as reported by the Chinese news outlet Sixth Tone.

The toddler, who was traveling with her grandmother, began to cry during the flight. The two women involved separated the child from her grandmother and locked her in the restroom, claiming they were attempting to manage the disruption for the benefit of other passengers. One of the women, identified as Gou Tingting, posted a video on social media showing herself carrying the child into the restroom. In the video, one of the women can be heard telling the distressed child, “If you make any noise again, we will leave you here alone.”

Gou described her actions as a selfless effort to protect fellow passengers from the noise, but the video quickly garnered widespread condemnation. Critics on social media argued that the women’s actions were inappropriate, as children cannot always control their emotions. Gou defended her decision on Douyin, a Chinese social media platform, claiming that the crying was so disruptive that other passengers were using tissues to block out the sound and had moved to the back of the plane to escape it. Despite her defense, the backlash continued, prompting Gou to make her social media account private.

The airline stated that the child’s grandmother had given permission for the women to take her to the restroom and that the child’s mother was informed and reportedly understood the situation. However, this explanation did little to mitigate the public outcry.

Wang Xin, the child’s mother, expressed concern about what she perceives as a growing intolerance towards children in public spaces. “Nowadays, people have a low tolerance for children crying,” she said. “To avoid such issues, I always preferred driving rather than using public transport when my child was younger.”
