Now the question arises whether any of these amounts can belong to your family members? Did your grandparents or any other relative deposit money in the bank which has now become unclaimed? To know this, RBI has developed a portal called UDGAM, where you can easily get your information.
How to use UDGAM portal?
By visiting the UDGAM portal, you can easily get information about unclaimed amount. For this, first of all you go to the udgam.rbi.org.in portal and register. Then, enter your name, mobile number, password and captcha code. After this, an OTP will come on your mobile, enter it. Then, enter the name of the account holder, name of the bank and ID proof like PAN card or voter ID. If any unclaimed amount is found, contact the concerned bank.
What to do if you find unclaimed amount?
If you find unclaimed amount on the UDGAM portal, you have to contact the concerned bank with your identity card like PAN card and address proof. This process may take some time, but it will ensure that you can get the amount you are entitled to. Actually, the government is serious about this increasing unclaimed amount and is taking various measures to resolve it. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has recently introduced new rules regarding unclaimed deposits in banks, so that this money can be used properly.
