Cases of cyber fraud are increasing rapidly in the country. In this episode, a case of cyber fraud has come to light from chandigarh where a 27-year-old woman was cheated of Rs 5.69 lakh in the name of liking an instagram video. This incident was carried out on the pretext of a work-from-home job in which the woman was lured into earning easy money.
How the fraud happened?
According to reports, the victim, a resident of Rajiv Colony in Sector 17, received a message on whatsapp on march 25. The woman who sent the message introduced herself as sneha Verma and claimed that she works in a company that provides opportunities to earn money sitting at home. She offered the woman to earn Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 daily by giving her small online tasks like liking instagram videos.
Seeing the opportunity to earn easy money, the woman got trapped in this trap and started completing the task. Initially by sending her a video link She was asked to like and then join the Telegram group for further tasks. After completing some tasks, earnings were shown in the woman's fake account, which made her believe that she was really earning money.
After this, the fraudsters convinced her to invest to earn more money. The woman initially sent Rs 1.5 lakh to several different bank accounts. Gradually, she was induced to deposit bigger amounts and eventually got defrauded of Rs 5.69 lakh. The scammers showed fake profits on a fake app and convinced her that her money was growing. But when the woman tried to withdraw her earnings, the fraudsters made a new rule in which her score had to reach 100 points. To withdraw the money, she was asked for another Rs 5 lakh, which made her suspicious. Then she told her family about this and lodged a complaint at the chandigarh Cyber Crime police Station. According to the police, the scam is being operated through fake profiles and shell accounts, making it difficult to trace the culprits.
