What is the participation of women in the labor force?
According to the Global Gender Gap Report of the World Economic Forum, india ranks 139th out of 145 countries in terms of economic participation and opportunities. This raises many questions about the participation of women in the labor market. The most worrying thing is that the participation of women in the labor force is decreasing.
The participation of women in rural areas was 12.6 crores in 2004-2005, which decreased to 10.6 crores in 2009-2010 and then to 10.3 crores in 2011-2012. At the same time, there has been a slight improvement in urban areas. Where it was 24.2% in 2009-2010, which increased to 28.8% in 2011-2012.
According to the report, 52% of people are engaged in self-employment, with women (56%) outnumbering men (51%). About 18% of workers are salaried employees, but this figure is about 43% in urban areas, while in rural areas it is only 9%.
