Here's why Israeli soldiers prefer to eat chicken the most.
Favorite meat of Israeli soldiers
Only a small percentage of IDF soldiers are Arab Muslims, with the majority being devout Jews. There are several similarities between the dietary laws of these two Abrahamic religions. As a result, every food prepared for Israeli soldiers must be Kosher (or Halal for Turkish personnel).
While pork and shellfish are severely forbidden in both judaism and Islam, IDF soldiers are permitted to consume beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, goat, and freshwater fish. However, chicken is the meat of choice for the Israeli military since it is easier to prepare, tastes well, and is available almost anywhere.
What about Vegan soldiers?
A small yet important percentage of IDF soldiers are vegan, even though the majority eat meat. For the soldiers who abstain from meat and other animal products, special vegan meals are prepared. These include such treats as Israeli salad, sabich, and falafel.
What do Israeli troops consume for lunch, supper, and breakfast?
IDF soldiers reportedly eat Tunisian sandwiches, shakshuka, hummus, falafel, muesli, energy bars, and cereal for breakfast, while non-vegetarian soldiers eat protein-rich lunches including grilled chicken, shawarma, and beef burgers, according to media reports.
Along with a variety of fruits and vegetables, vegan or vegetarian soldiers are offered rice, potatoes, yogurt, tofu schnitzel, tofu shawarma, and vegetarian hamburgers.
The menu for dinner is typically the same as that for lunch, although a little less is offered to soldiers so they can sleep with a light stomach and move swiftly if needed.
How about alcohol?
Alcohol use is strictly prohibited in the israel Defense Forces (IDF), in contrast to many other militaries worldwide. No officer or soldier is permitted to consume any alcoholic beverages while in the camp or on active duty. This rule does not have any exceptions.
